Lipton Cat Update

A few weeks ago I blogged about a family of cats in a small town that needed to find new homes asap due to a new by-law - or else they were at risk of being seized and relocated to farms.

Thankfully, PFA volunteers and foster homes came through and we were able to help a number of these cats who are now safe and sound in foster care, and looking for new homes.

Here are some pics of little Bugsie and Thorny (now Thumbelina) playing in their foster home.

All the cats listed in the two blog posts are available for adoption except Marlee and Cabana who were trapped and relocated before we were able to place them.

Raenen

This handsome boy was found a few weeks ago, outside fending off other stray cats, when one of our volunteers heard his cries and came to his rescue. He seemed to be in good shape and thought to of been lost and not just another stray..... He is tame, has a nice coat, had no ear mites or worms, had been neutered at a younger age and is a healthy weight, none of the usual characteristics of an abandoned cat. Unfortunately after several weeks of avidly looking for his family with no success we have decided he should enter PFA's foster system.

Raenen is a neutered male believed to be 5-6yrs old. He's approx 10 lbs and most friendly. Shortly after being rescued he climbed into the 6 yr olds lab and purred away like he's always live here. He didn't care that there are other cats in his rescuers home nor a big dog. He has a soft fluffy black body with a patch of white on his chest and his belly. Likes to snuggle, purr and polietly asks for his bedtime treat.

If interested in Raenen please contact People For Animals.

A Cinderella Story

Little Iggy (now Willow) was rescued last fall after a concerned citizen found her scrounging for food at a dump site outside of Regina. Initially thought to be a kitten due to her tiny size, she was eventually determined to be closer to a year old, but was undersized due to malnutrition.

What she lacked in size she made up for in personality and spunk, and this sweet girl quickly found a new, loving family that cherishes her.

Here is Willow in her new home, lounging with her buddy, Jasmine and living the good life!

A Gem of a Cat

This pretty and unique girl is Topaz, a very friendly and loving female who was rescued by a kind, cat loving family a few weeks ago after landing on their doorstep on a very cold day, frozen and hungry.

She picked a good place to land, as the family is quit accustomed to rescuing and caring for strays. After trying to locate an owner without success, they contacted PFA for help in getting her a good home and are fostering her until we find one.

She will be listed for adoption shortly.

For more information on Topaz, please contact us at saskpeopleforanimals@gmail.com

A Perfect Pet, hitch

Handsome Hitch may have started off as a stray tom but he quickly became one of our favourite rescues ever, mainly because of his laid-back ways and adaptability.

He is good with kids, dogs and other cats and he ADORES people, especially when they are cuddling him.

Hitch was recently returned to foster care, reluctantly, after a brief stint in an adoptive home because the other cat in the home did not adapt well to having a cat companion. He is back in his original foster home with his cat, dog and baby buddies and doing great!

However, he is still seeking a home of his own and would fit in great in a family or multiple pet setting. Click here to see his adoption ad.

The Three Musketeers

This adorable little trio of Logan, Bugsy and Atti are inseparable. PFA volunteer and mom Sarah says Bugsy (cat) and Atti adore baby Logan, and it's amazing how much tail pulling and face poking they will take just to be close to him!
Sarah saves a fortune on stuffed animals and Logan never lacks for a warm, fuzzy bed buddy so it works out great for all!

Surrogate Mama Zoey to the The Rescue!

Saturday evening I got a panicked phone call from one of our foster moms. Her daughter had rescued a litter of six kittens who were fading fast because their mama was too sick to look after them.

At just 3 weeks old, even a day without nutrients put them in jeopardy. The woman and her daughter did their best to try and bottle feed them, but the kittens weren't eating and by Sunday things were looking grim. One of the kittens had already died.
So, I contacted the family fostering mama Zoey to see if they'd be willing to take the litter and see if Zoey would "adopt" the kittens and nurse them. Zoey's own kittens are now 8 weeks old and have just been adopted, so she is still in mama mode but only had 3 of her own babies, so taking on 5 was a tall order. It was a long shot with no guarantee of success - and if Zoey rejected them, then the 5 struggling kittens would need to be bottle-fed, which is a full-time job.

Thankfully, Zoey instantly joined the babies and started caring for them as soon as she heard the desperate little cries. She is caring for the kittens like they were her own - one of the sweet miracles of nature (and cats). They were pretty hungry, so are still getting a bit of supplement, but are loving the comfort of being with Zoey.

Hopefully, these little kittens will thrive and go on to find loving homes just like Zoey's babies did!

Former Foster Kitten Living the Good Life

Last summer PFA rescued a tiny orange kitten who was found as a hungry stray, even though he was much too young to be fending for himself. His foster mom was instantly charmed by his warm, friendly and loving personality. She named him Sunshine Boy, and he was adopted by a loving family very quickly (and renamed Sunny).

They recently sent us this update:

Young Sunny just loves to sit/lay in every conceivable position that is both unnatural and sometimes laughable. This feline will sit like this and watch us or television pretending all cats clearly do this.

He is a real charmer and can have even the most die hard dog lover realize cats are truly cool. He is everything the adoptive parent put in the add and more, just for the record we did not adopt him, he adopted us!

The one thing I will say about Sunny he will eat anything, in fact he can be a bit of a thief when food is around. Examples of his dietary interests are the likes of carrots/peas, pretzels and lint on the floor when the spirit moves him, however he is most attached to his quality cat food as can be seen by his "Buddha Belly". Clearly his early days of food deprivation has cause him to be a zealous consumerof food.

Thank you for the purrfect pet and and good work with these unforgettable animals.

Update - Wyatt Earp

What a difference a few weeks in a loving foster home can make. When we rescued Wyatt a few weeks ago, he was very cold, hungry and scared, with signs of frostbite on his ears.

Now, he is looking great and has no lasting damage - as these new pics show, his ears are just fine. He is affectionate, loves to snuggle and is learning to play with the other cats in his foster home.

This is one lucky little cat, and we are happy that he's safe and sound and on the road to finding a loving permanent home.

Update - Zoey and her Kittens

In late January, we wrote about a beautiful young cat named Zoey who had just given birth to three kittens when their owner was evicted, leaving them homeless.

Thankfully, a PFA foster home came through and took in the little family. They were quickly christened the iCarly kittens, and Carly, Sammy, and Freddy have been thriving, along with their mama.

Here is an update from the foster home:

The iCarly Kittens: Carly, Sammy, & Freddy will be available for adoption for March 12th. At 7 weeks of age they are well on their way to being loving companions for anyone looking to add a little fur ball to their lives. Carly is the petite tabby with the black nose, female, she likes to follow her siblings and snuggle up for quiet time. Sammy is a female tabby with a pink nose. The girls like to be together and hang out. Freddy our black and white male kitten is the adventurous one. He has caught the eye of a friend and is no longer available for adoption. Sorry ladies that spunky little fella is spoken for!

This adorable litter was surrendered to PFA in January when its owners were evicted from their home and could not take them with them. Their heartfelt pleas were posted on a website that caught the eye of fellow PFA supporters that asked if PFA could do anything to help this family out in need. This came at the time when our family had just adopted our last foster kitten into a good home. We even asked if there were any young kittens available to foster. Little did we know there were litters being born this cold winter of January.

Zoey has been a fantastic mother to her three kittens. She gave us a scare when she became sick in the kittens 6th week, but she is doing well now and the kittens are growing. We have introduced the kittens to a number of different foods. They enjoy canned food and the raw diet most, but, have also been given kibble to eat as well.

*When adopting a kitten through People For Animals, it is a contractual agreement to have the kitten spayed/neutered at the approximate age of 6 months*.

If you would like to meet any of the kittens,
- please contact us at saskpeopleforanimals@gmail.com.

More of the Lipton Cats

Here are the remaining Lipton cats that are seeking new homes:

1. Jasper – Jasper is a neutered male, 7 years old. He is a love who adores cuddling beside you and curling up at night purring away as he snuggles you. He has a wonderful disposition and is good with other cats and dogs. He is a wonderful boy and anyone would be lucky to have him as a part of their family.
2. Lacey – Lacey is a spayed female, approx 7 years old. Lacey is part Siamese and has a blue gray and cream color with beautiful sea blue eyes. She is a sweetheart, with a wonderful disposition and is Jasper’s sister. They were both rescued from a abandoned house as kittens. Lacey loves her attention and comes over to greet you to get her petting. She is also a talker and chatters all the way across the room when she is on her way over to see you. A beautiful kitty who deserves a loving home.

3. Kiwi- Kiwi ( needs to be neutered) - approx 2 – 3 years old. He is a laid back easy going cat, good with other cats and just appreciates a warm place to live, with food and water. He could become a nice addition to a family with someone to appreciate him and love him.

4. Bugsie is a spayed female approx 6 months old. Bugsie is a pure black little kitty with big round eyes. She has a sweet disposition and loves to play and curl up on your lap for cuddles. She loves to go outside when it is nice out too. Sweet little kitty.

A Whole Family of Cats in Need

PFA was recently contacted by the Saskatchewan SPCA in hopes we could provide some assistance to a cat rescuer in the town of Lipton, Saskatchewan who ran up against some prettyn unfriendly local bylaws.
This woman has been rescuing the towns strays for many years, most of them sweet, tame cats who were dumped outside when they were no longer wanted. She took in as many cats as she could, but some of them go in and out through a dog door.

The town recently passed a roaming-at-large by-law that has led to a neighbour trapping 4 of her tame, sterilized cats, and the town then relocated them to farms. She feels awful about this and knows their chances of survival on the farms are slim. This threat of trapping/relocation will continue as longas she has cats going out of doors, so she is trying to keep them contained, but has 11 cats that need to find new homes.
All but two are sterilized, and all are tame, sweet and friendly. We are hoping that PFA supporters will share this info far and wide in the hopes that we can get some foster or adoptive homes lined up for some of these cats, hopefully in the surrounding area.

The cats are pictured above, descriptions are below. Please contact PFA at saskpeopleforanimals@gmail.com if you are interested in helping find homes for these cats.

1. Thorney – Thorney is approx 5 month old female kitten, soon to be spayed. She is a feisty little kitten as she had to fight for any food before she was rescued. She doesn’t back down from anyone or anything. She also has a swirl (curled tail) tail as it appears it may of been broken at one time and she lost part of it. She has pretty colors with the longer hair dark brown and paintbrush flecks of orange on her body. She loves to come and cuddle in bed at night and poke at your face to see if you know she is there. She would be a wonderful new addition to anyone’s family.
2. Cabana – Cabana is a neutered male approx 3 – 5 years old. Cabana would do best with a home of his own or maybe one other cat. I think he has had a hard time finding a home of his own. He is not real affectionate but he does like to curl up on your lap with you while you sit and watch tv. He also likes to cuddle next to you in bed. He has had a tough life out there and could really use a forever home.
3. Susie – Susie is a spayed female approx 5 – 7 years old. Susie Q had a hard start she arrived at my place about 4 years ago with no ear tips, pregnant and had 3 kittens that she had had a month or so before. She had been a cute calco kitten herself that someone in the town had grown tired of and tossed her out. She loves to sit beside you and take part in your day, she lies her petting and curls up her feet when she is happy. She is interesting in the way that she looks at you and studies your face. I always know when I have a bad hair day by the look on her face. She deserves a good home. She is a sweetheart.
4. Ginger –Ginger is a neutered male, approx 4 years old and is a beautiful boy. He looks like a fox with his long slender face and his long coat with his bushy tale with the white tip. He loves to play outside when the weather is good and he loves to cuddle up next to you in bed at night. He does well with other cats, but I think he is ready for a home of his own where he gets lots of attention and is shown how special he is.

5. Marlee – Marlee is a spayed female, approx 3 years old. Marlee is a beautiful calico cat. She would do well in a home of her own as she is bossy with other cats and likes to be in charge. She will visit and cuddle with you and hang out if she has your full attention. She likes to go outside in good weather but always happy to see you when she comes in. She is a really nice little cat.
6. Mattie –Mattie is a spayed female, approx 4 years old. She is a sweet and happy little girl. She is always so glad to see you and comes to greet you just like a dog. She loves to cuddle on the bed at night with you. She is a goof too and sometimes likes to hang over your shoulder. She is good with other cats and dogs. She would be a wonderful addition to anyone’s family.

7. Dexter –Dexter is a neutered male approx 5 years old. Dexter is a character. He loves to hang over a chair or lay with his back legs straight out like a chow would do and his front feet and head hanging over the front of the chair. He loves to curl up on your lap while you watch tv. He likes to sleep beside you in bed. He walks around with a sold step of authority like a suma wrestler. He is a great guy. Good with other cats and dogs
