Yee haw! Volunteer for PFA at Craven Country Jamboree!

Cowboy cat needs your help!

PFA has gotten an amazing opportunity to work at the concession booth for the Craven Country Jamboree. There are a lot of shifts available and we need you to help us fill them! For every hour one of our volunteers works, $11 will be donated to help pay the vet bills for our many foster and feral cats and kittens.

If you have a few hours to spare during the festival, July 11-15, 2012, and want to have some fun for a good cause, email us at pfasask@gmail.com.

Get along, little kittehs.

Little Family of Cat Gods

This little cat family was dropped on the doorstep of a PFA foster family in need of a safe and stable environment for the mama cat to nurture her kittens.

The beautiful and regal mama is Aphrodite, named after the goddess of love, and she is a very loving little cat mama. Her adorable kittens are:

  • Grey tabby– Apollo
  • Orange & white – Artemis
  • Brown tabby – Ares
  • Black – Athena

There is a kitten for every taste in this litter! All are thriving and love attention, and love to play. The kittens are currently 4 weeks old, and will be ready for adoption the week of June 25th.

Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com for more info on these adorable kitties!

PFA at the Cathedral Village Arts Festival

It wasn't exactly fun in the sun, but we still had a great day at the annual Cathedral Village Arts Festival today. In fact, it was one of our best days ever at the street fair.

Thanks so much to everyone who  helped make the day a success - the volunteers who worked at the booth, the people who made and donated cat toys, blankets and other items to sell, and to everyone who dropped by our booth to purchase items or make a donation!

We really appreciate the support.

Fun Cat Facts

As most of us know, cats are pretty fascinating little creatures with all sorts of unique traits and characteristics.

It probably won't come as a surprise to most cat owners that cats sleep 16-18 hours a day, but do you know what percentage of a cats bones are in its tail (10%)?

Foster Home Needed for Abandoned Mama and Kittens

PFA is seeking a foster home for a mama cat and 4 two-week old kittens that were abandoned in the Broder's Annex area.

Our current foster homes are full, so we are looking for people to help spread the word in hopes of finding someone to take in the little family.

Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com if you can help.  Thanks!

Mujou!

This cute calico kitty is Mujou, an 8-10 month old female who was recently found stray in the Broder's Annex area and went unclaimed.

Mujou is a Japanese word that describes a state of constant change, or impermanence, and sadly, that applies to many of our rescued cats as they transition to permanent homes. Luckily for Mujou, she sought shelter in the yard of a PFA foster dad who alerted us to the fact that she was homeless and needed help.

Mujou is now spayed and safe in foster care, and is available for adoption. Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com for more info on Mujou.

Super-Model Kittehs!

Meet Coco and Chanel, our sleek and lovely kitten sisters who took time out of their busy playing, napping, eating and cuddling schedule to pose for some pics.

Coco and Chanel were found by a feral team volunteer at a feeding station in the core area that is notorious for number of kittens rescued there every year, despite tour annual Trap/Neuter/Release efforts in the area.

These gorgeous girls are safe in foster care with a multi-pet foster family and are quickly becoming accustomed to the finer things in life, like regular food, toys and snuggles from little girls!

They will be available for adoption shortly. For info, please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com.

Archer High-Fives His Foster Mom

This absolutely adorable little guy is Archer, a young stray kitten found by one of our foster families in the North Central area.

It's only his first day in foster care, but he's already pretty comfy and enjoying the good life! Here he is giving a high-five  - with his little polydactyl paw -  for his foster mom, and his rescuers.

Archer will be available for adoption soon! If you are interested in this little sweetheart, please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com.

Super Sweet Sarabelle!

This sweet little silver tabby kitten is Sarabelle, an 8-week old female found scared and up a tree recently by a kind citizen.

Sarabelle is a very gregarious and outgoing kitten, she loves people and attention but sadly hasn't been claimed, and is in need of a new home! Sarabelle loves to play and can be cuddled at will!

She is currently safe and sound in a kitten foster home, and is having fun playing with the resident cats, and getting lots of cuddles from her foster family.

For more info on Sarabelle, please email us at pfasask@gmail.com.

Two Teeny and Terrific Tabby (Almost) Mamas

These adorable young cats are both recent rescues that were heavily pregnant when rescued, and living on the streets.

Thankfully, they were rescued in the nick of time and both girls are now spayed and recovering nicely while they wait for their new homes.

Dorothy (brown tabby) is an energetic and affectionate lovebug that can't get enough attention. She is a young cat (about 1 year old) who just wants to be petted and cuddled. She is absolutely irresistible!

Hope, the pretty tabby with white, is a long-time resident of a feral feeding station and has already had several litters, who were fostered and went on to find loving homes, prior to her rescue. Now, it is her turn to find a home of her own and live the good life of a cherished pet.

Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com for more info on these sweet girls.

A Little Miracle Cat, Amira!

This pretty little tabby cat is Amira, a 2-3 year old female rescued from a feral cat feeding station by one of our dedicated feral feeders.

If she looks a bit distressed in these pics, it is with good reason as her last week has been harrowing. She was rescued a week ago in rough shape, after a volunteer noticed she was looking scrawny and covered in runny feces.

Once at the clinic, Amira was found to be full of mites, and suffering with severe diarrhea. She was also extremely underweight for an adult cat, and barely survived her spay surgery after her heart stopped mid-way through and she crashed.

Thanks to the team of fast-acting and dedicated vets at the Victoria Veterinary Clinic, she pulled through and was awake, breathing on her own and doing well by the end of the evening.

We are so glad this amazing little trooper pulled through, and we know it's a sign that she is meant to go on and find a wonderful new home that will love her forever.

Amira is still recovering at the Vet Clinic, but she is doing better every day, and is proving to be a sweet and loving little cat.

As always, we are short of foster homes and would love to find a safe foster or adoptive home for this sweet girl where she can get the TLC she needs and deserves.

Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com for more information on Amira.

We Be Fundraising!

It's spring and that can only mean two things for PFA - kitten season, and Trap-Neuter-Release season!

We are busy rescuing and sterilizing (an providing other necessary care) for dozens of street cats this spring, and this takes a lot of money.

We raise all of our own funds - we don't get any grant or corporate donations, so we work hard to come up with the money for our operations!

Please help us out by volunteering (or visiting us) at the following events:

Good Night, Sweet Miss Kitty

The PFA feral team is comprised of extremely dedicated volunteers who hit the streets daily to feed and look after the city's outdoor feral cats. They are out there feeding regardless of weather conditions,  stat holidays, etc.

Feral cats are afraid of people for the most part, but many of them started out as tame cats and were abandoned or left to fend for themselves. Our feral cats know our feeders, and are waiting anxiously each day for their meals! And our feeders know, and have come to love, their charges.

Miss Kitty is a long-time member of a PFA colony in North Central, and was run over by a car and killed instantly 2 days ago.

No matter how dedicated they are, and how hard they work to better the lives of feral cats, they can't remove the inherent dangers of life on the street, such as vehicle traffic.

We mourn the loss of our sweet Miss Kitty. Our feeders miss seeing her at the station every day. She didn't have to touch her caregivers physically to touch their hearts spiritually.

Rest in Peace, Miss Kitty.

Ruthie!

This past weekend, PFA received  a panicked call for help from a family who thought they had an orphaned baby on their hands.

This tiny girl, Ruthie (7 weeks), was found alone and trying to fend for herself outdoors even though she isn't old enough to be separated from her mama! She wasn't exactly an orphan needing bottle feeding, but we took her on anyway, as we know she is bound to be scooped up fast!

Ruthie is safe and sound in a kitten foster home, and is eating up a storm and learning to play and cuddle.

She is available for adoption! Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com for more info.

Arnie is Awesome

This is Arnie, a 2-3 year old male cat rescued by the feral team a few weeks ago, hungry, bedraggled and scared.

Luckily, our volunteers recognized his potential to be a great pet, and he has been placed in foster care rather than released to the street.

He was in rough shape at first and needed to be partially shaved due to matting, but he got lots of TLC while at the vet clinic recovering, and now he is ready to find a new home.

Arnie love soft food, catnip toys, and especially playing with cat dancers! He loves to be brushed and cuddled, and shows his appreciation with serious purring action.

Arnie will be listed for adoption shortly. Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com or more info on this sweet guy.

Andi - With Fur!

This is our handsome little rescued cat, Andi, now that he's had a chance to re-grow his coat after being shaved due to excessive matting.

Andi continues to thrive in foster care. He is very affectionate and playful, adores attention and gets along well with the two resident cats, Onyx and Inka, who are also PFA rescues.  Now, he just needs a home of his own.

He is available for adoption. Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com for more info.

Cathedral Village Arts Festival - Volunteers Needed

Spring brings one of our favourite community events of the year - the Cathedral Village Arts Festival Street Fair, and we need volunteers to help make our booth a success.

The Street Fair runs from 9-5 on Saturday, May 26th. Volunteers are needed to man the booth and hand out literature, explain our programs, and sell our merchandise, such as catnip toys and "in case of emergency"stickers.

Shifts are 9-11 (includes set-up), 11-1, 1-3 and 3-5:15 (includes take-down). Orientation is provided.

Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com if you'd  like to help out with this fun annual event.

Razzle-Dazzle!

This stunning little guy is Razzle, a unique 5-month old kitten who was dumped in a box in front of a sporting good store last week.

Razzle has beautiful and captivating eyes, lovely black fur that fades to grey, and the sweetest and snuggliest personality you could ever hope to have in a kitten!  He's chatty, too!

We don't know how anyone could just abandon such a wonderful little cat, but thankfully he is safe and sound in foster care, and will be listed for adoption shortly.

For info on this gorgeous little guy, email us at pfasask@gmail.com

Brutus (Jazz) Beat the Odds

This handsome orange guy is Brutus, a wonderful and sweet cat who was rescued in early April and who  quickly caught the eye of a loving new family.

Brutus is one of many young strays that PFA rescues off the streets of North Central Regina every year. A few weeks earlier, we nabbed his little brother, Toffee, who also found a forever home soon after rescue.

Brutus, now Jazz, spends his days relaxing at his family's lake home, soaking up the sun and playing with his dog buddy diesel.

They love him, and he clearly loves his new life as a cherished pet!

Little Cat Family Left Out in the Cold

This cute little cat family was abandoned twice in the last week - once when they were dropped off in a box on a doorstep by an uncaring person, and a second time when the residents put them in their backyard to fend for themselves.

Luckily, an animal loving neighbour noticed the cats outside with no food or water, and intervened.

The little mama and her 4 kittens are now safe in a PFA kitten foster home. They are a bit malnourished and under-sized but doing well. They are very friendly and sweet, and will be available for adoption in a couple of weeks.

For information on these kittens and their mama, please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com
