Tiny Female Stray Needs Foster Home

This teeny little girl is a very affectionate and sweet cat who has been living as a stray for several weeks now. The family feeding her is very concerned about her welfare, as it's obvious she's been an indoor cat. But, no-one has claimed her despite posters and on-line postings, and they have 6 pets of their own to care for and are not in a position to foster.

She is about 4 months old. We are hoping to find a foster home for her before it gets too cold. You can see her hanging out at the window, hoping to get in!

Many Strays Seeking Homes

PFA is busy year round dealing with stray and homeless cats trying to survive on the streets. In the winter months, the severe cold and limited availability of food and water make it imperative to rescue as many cats as we possibly can - it's a matter of survival.

Come spring and summer, we are busy with our Trap/Neuter/Release efforts to sterilize stray and feral cats and keep the population down. No matter how many cats we sterilize, there are always lots of kittens and mamas with litters out there, and our foster homes are quickly maxed out.

In the fall, before all the summer rescues have found homes, we begin to get numerous requests for help as people who find or feed tame strays seek assistance in finding them homes before it gets too cold.

Here are pictures of just some of the cats we have been notified about in the last week alone! These are the lucky ones who are able to be fostered or financially sponsored by their rescuers, enabling us to help without further straining our limited resources:

• Little Bit - a teeny, tiny calico rescued by a kind family in Glencairn starving and full of mites who immediately took her to the vet to get her treated and ease her discomfort;
• Georgie (tabby kitten) - a precious, playful young kitten rescued by a PFA foster mom in the General Hospital area, all alone, and not claimed despite many efforts to locate an owner;
• Blink - a beautiful grey tabby who is so affectionate and loving that he immediately crawls up your chest to hug you as soon as you get close enough!  He was being fed by a kind lady in North Central who has rescued many strays and helped cover their vet bills. He turned out to be fixed and tattooed, but went unclaimed. He is currently at PetCetera waiting for a new home. 
• Bob-Tailed Kitty - this gorgeous girl spent the summer dumpster diving in a North Central back alley before being rescued by an animal loving family who noticed that she is pregnant - and has an injured paw.

Left Behind...and Homeless

Back in the spring, I wrote about Pascal, a 12 year old white cat who spent the winter sheltering in the backyard colony of a PFA volunteer. When it was warm enough to trap and neuter him, we discovered that Pascal was already fixed and had an owner living nearby who'd been missing his pet!

They were happily reunited, but not for long. Sadly, Pascal's owner recently passed away, and no-one in the family wants to assume care of Pascal and his cat buddy Teeny.  They will be headed to the Humane Society this week-end if we are unable to find a foster or adoptive home for them.

Both are older, shyer cats who will likely be harder to place in permanent homes. But, they still have lots of love to give to a patient and kind caregiver, and  we want them to have the chance if possible.

More Cute Little Kittens In Need

This week we were contacted by a dedicated PFA volunteer whose colleague had rescued two tiny young kittens abandoned near a riding stable. They were hungry, scared and full of ear mites, but are very sweet and loving.

The family took the kittens home and are providing dedicated foster care. PFA has provided shots, de-worming and ear mite treatment for these adorable 6-week old kittens.

In Good Taste Fundraiser - Yummy Baking Helps Rescues!

It takes a lot of money to sterilize, support and adopt out over 200 cats per year, and PFA is at it again with another new fundraiser! 

We are selling yummy baking from  In Good Taste, a Saskatchewan based company that helps non-profits raise funds with their spectacular section of baked treats. Don't Let It Go To Waste...

..PFA has several foster homes that feed their charges a raw diet, and that can be costly for those that foster multiple cats.
