Update on the Newest Sedley Mama

Here is our latest Sedley family, Mama Lucy and her kittens, hanging out together in their foster home. The babies are three weeks old now, and are starting to become mobile. The babies are Emily Starr (black), Gilbert (tuxedo), Cuthbert (orange) and Marilla (grey).

Lucy is enjoying some TLC from her foster family and has been playing like a kitten herself with her new toys!

2 Young Male Kittens

PFA has rescued two young male kittens in the last few days who need foster homes. They are older kittens who have been deemed to be too old by most of our kitten foster homes (who prefer the little ones) , and are still too kittenish for those who prefer adult cats - and those foster homes are already overloaded anyway.

Little Willie, the tabby, is 5 months old and way too young to be facing a life on the streets. He is sweet, calm and affectionate and must have belonged to someone, but somehow he ended up on his own (and with an injured tail).

Smudge is a bit older, likely 6-10 months, and also very sweet and loving. We know someone owned him once, because he had a collar. Sadly, he must have been lost or abandoned some time ago because upon rescue, it was discovered that the collar was embedded in his neck, causing a laceration that became infected.

Spring is a busy time for People for Animals, with Trap/Neuter/Release projects underway and numerous stray cats and kittens being reported.

Mama Lucy and the Sedley Kittens

Here are some more pics of the little kitten family from the Sedley seed plant. The mama is Lucy, and she has 4 adorable kittens that were born on the Easter long week-end.

They will be ready for adoption the week of June 19th.

North End Boys

These adorable boys where found sheltering in a volunteer's garage in Argyle Park. Bandit is a 4 year old medium haired, black and white male and Kenny is the short haired brown/black/white 1 year old male.

Kenny arrived first, checking out the garage situation. He discovered kind people who fed him and gave him attention. The 2 resident cats weren't so mean either, so after hanging out here for several days then he went and told his stray friend Bandit to come stay here too.

Bandit was a bit more hesitant with all the attention and free food as he had been living as a stray longer (his coat/ears had shown it.) But quickly he realized these were good people and he too showed his appreciation with purrs.

Both boys have recently been neutered and will be placed up for adoption soon. They are in foster care together and act like brothers.

Two Cute Calico Rescues

Ruby and Simone are both sweet young calicos rescued yesterday afternoon by two different PFA volunteers who look out for their neighbourhood strays.

Ruby (top) is an obviously tame indoor cat who was out of her element in a north central neighbourhood currently populated by several un-neutered tomcats. She was rescued by a PFA foster home and volunteer, and we are hoping we can reunite her with her owner.

Simone was found in the backyard of another foster home, several blocks away, cranky and engorged, and fighting with other cats in the area. We were concerned that she may have kittens hidden nearby, but a quick vet check confirmed that she was not actively lactating, so she has been spayed, treated for an infection and is waiting for a foster home space to become available. She is very sweet and loving with people - not so much with other cats!

A Spring Ritual - Seed Mill Kittens!

Two years ago in the spring of 2009, PFA got a call from a concerned employee at the Sedley Seed Plant regarding a mama cat who had given birth to a litter of kittens in the mill. The employees took care of the little family for a few weeks, but it wasn't a safe environment so Molly and her kittens were placed into foster care, and they all quickly found homes.

Last year, we got another call from the same gentleman, who had discovered another little cat family in the mill - Jasmine and a litter of 7 kittens. Jasmine and her babies also found forever homes through People for Animals.

Yesterday, we were notified that once again, the staff at the seed plant were hosting another little cat family. This sweet tortie is the Sedley Seed Mill mama for 2011. She is now safe in foster car with her 4 kittens.
