June is Adopt a Cat Month

June is Adopt - a - Cat month, and there is no better place to find a fabulous feline friend than PFA.

We have dozens of wonderful rescued cats and kittens up for adoption, from young kittens (OJ - top) to teenagers (Lolita - black) and adults (Oliver - orange/white) to sweet seniors like Spirit (Siamese). They are grateful to be rescued and just waiting to lavish their new forever families with love.

A Helping Paw....

This is one of my own 6 cats, Sally a siamese chocolate point. She is 5 years old and had a litter of kittens herself many years ago. I'm so proud of this kitty. Sally loves it when we take in foster kittens. She steps up as a momma cat and helps out by cleaning the foster kittens, purring to them and even lets them suckle on her!

This black kitten is Baby, a little boy found in a hole covered in mud a few weeks ago. He is only 5 weeks old and really missed his own mom. Sally cuddles with him and lets him suckle on her fur. Such a good Kitty!

An Update on the Sedley Seven

As a street rescue group largely dedicated to working with Regina's large stray and feral cat population, we end up taking in a lot of kittens born to feral mothers to be fostered and adopted to loving homes. We have to remove the babies from the mamas when they are old enough to be weaned in order to give them a chance for loving homes and a life off of the streets.

So, it is kind of special for us to have tame mamas with their litters in foster care,and it is so beneficial for babies to be with their moms and litter mates until they are at least 8 weeks old.

A few weeks ago I wrote about the rescue of a mama with 7 kittens rescued from the Sedley seed plant.

These adorable kittens are now 4 weeks old and all are thriving. There are two tiny tortis Precious (peach strip between eyes) and Clover. The grey and white kitten is a girl named Sweet Pea. The black and white is also a girl, named T.C (for Too Cute). The grey kitten is a boy named Bear. The brown and black tabbies are boys named them Simba and Aslan.

Mama Jasmine is a tiny young cat, barely more than a kitten herself and she is very busy taking care of 7 babies but not too busy to accept snuggles. They are a very sweet and fun little cat family that will be listed for adoption soon.

The Kittens Keep Coming...

Everywhere we go these days, we find little kittens out on their own - too young to be away from their mamas and litter-mates. But, there they are out on the streets all by themselves.

This week, our rescues include a super adorable little female named Sammi (black and white) and a very playful and outgoing boy (tabby with white) named OJ who was rescued late at night outside of a Mosaic pavilion at risk of being hit by a car. He is having a blast playing with the the other kittens in his foster home.

Both these babies will be listed for adoption right away.

Hug Your Cat Day

According to my Regina Humane Society calendar, today is Hug Your Cat Day! What a great idea - what could be better than a little snuggle with a warm fuzzy furball?

Of course, not all cats actually like hugs. However, we have some great little cats in foster care that like to give and receive hugs and kisses, like sweet Simon (tabby) and Super Kitty (black). They are waiting for someone to adopt them so they can bestow all that love onto permanent owner.

BellyDancing for PFA - Mystique 2010

PFA is grateful to have many good friends and supporters who help us out with fundraising. One very fun and generous group is the Mystique belly dancers, who are hosting Mystique 2010: Gypsy Thunder: A Theatrical Belly Dance Performance and Summer Solstice Celebration.

Mystique 2010 will be held Friday June 18th and Saturday June 19th at Truly Unique Country Weddings (HWY 6, just North of Regina), and the dancers will be holding a 50/50 draw with proceeds going to PFA.

Mystique Attractions include:

• Belly dance performances Friday and Saturday evening
• Belly dance and drumming workshops free for evening performance ticket holders
• Summer fun activities for all ages (trout fishing, horse shoe, croquet, volleyball, relaxing in the Market Place)

We Finally Found Them - Nabbing Some Elusive Kittens

These adorable and feisty kittens were born to a beautiful feral mama named Scarlett who is a resident at one of our feeding stations.

The feral team was planning to scoop these kittens a few weeks ago as soon as they could be safely weaned (and follow up with a spay for Scarlett) but Scarlett is a clever and protective mama and she proved to be very adept at keeping her babies hidden from interfering humans!

After three weeks of searching our feral team volunteers located them unexpectedly on Sunday and quickly nabbed them and delivered them to a foster home where they will be socialized with people and other cats, and listed for adoption.
