Fundraising for Felines

Spring is in full swing and that means that the PFA feral cat team is busy with our Trap/Neuter/Release program to control the feral cat population in Regina. The great spring weather so far has brought lots of success...and lots of vet bills!

We are doing our best to raise funds so that we can sterilize as many stray and feral cats as possible, help mama cats and their litters that are born on the street, and continue helping rescued tame cats find loving homes. But, we need help.

We need volunteers for the following fund-raising activities:

• World's Biggest Garage Sale: Saturday, May 1st (10-12 volunteers needed for 2-hour shifts)
  
• Al Ritchie Community Flea Market: Saturday, May 8th (5-6 volunteers needed)

We also have several other fund-raising activities on the go:

• The 3rd Annual PFA raffle. Tickets are $2 each and we have an awesome selection of prizes including a sleepy-pod pet carrier, a pet photography package, baskets from Epicure, Gold Canyon, Angel Works, and a unique home-spa package, and gift cards from Kater's Mobile Massage and Planet Caravan. We are fortunate to work with generous vendors who are willing to donate a significant portion of the sales proceeds to PFA. Fuzzy Finds a Home!

Our cute and charming boy Fuzzy was adopted this week - by his awesome foster home, who couldn't bear to let him go. It isn't always easy to introduce a new foster cat into your home, but Fuzzy got along with everyone immediately and was instantly at home with the whole family.

Here he is hanging out with his buddy Sam. These two boys bonded quickly and it's like they've always known each other. Another great match and happy ending for a deserving foster kitty!

Max's Happy Ending

PFA volunteers were thrilled last week when our sweet older boy, Max, was adopted into a terrific new home after waiting for over a year in foster care.

Here is Max (grey tabby) hanging out with his new buddy, Chateau. The two cats got along instantly and Max loves to eat, play and relax right alongside his big "brother".

Thanks to Max's new owner Jerry for recognizing the advantages of adopting a mature cat, and of course to the lovely Chateau for easing the way for Max!

Kiki at Home

This handsome and happy cat is Kiki (now Lewie), a lucky foster cat who was recently adopted into a loving new home.

Kiki had a tumultuous journey to his forever home. He was rescued in July 2009 along with several other cats from a bizarre hoarding situation and placed into foster care. He was briefly adopted in September but struggled to fit in with a busy family in a large house after being in a quiet and cozy foster home, so back into foster care he went, this time into a different home, until his adoption last week.

His new owner Jaycee says that he is doing fabulously and based on these pictures, we agree. Hooray for Kiki!

April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month! Now is a great time to adopt or foster a rescued animal, organize a bake sale or other fundraiser for animal charities, and spoil your own pets even more than usual.

A Little Mother Hen

Maybe it's the mama in her, but our petite little Dinah has appointed herself as protector and bodyguard when it comes to her little foster buddy, Scamp.

Dinah is normally all about belly rubs, cuddles and purrs, but if any of the other cats in the foster home starts to play rough with Scamp, she is right there to smack them down and beat them into a hasty retreat!

Scamp is lucky to have such a great friend. Here they are celebrating victory with a bowl of milk.

Both Dinah and Scamp are available for adoption and patiently waiting for their forever homes. It's nice that they have each other in the meantime.

Wonderful Wilbur

This big, beautiful orange boy is Wilbur, yet another cat rescued from the bitter winter cold by a caring citizen back in January.

He was rescued in the Lakeview area - not normally somewhere we come across strays but it goes to show that there are homeless cats everywhere in our city.

Wilbur was quite rattled by his experience on the streets and was very timid when he was first rescued. It took him quite a while to come out of his shell but with some TLC and extra attention from his foster family at Prairie Animal Assistance, Wilbur is secure, confident and ready for adoption. He is also a very handsome fellow!
