Fundraising for Felines

PFA is still seeking donations towards dental surgery for a very sweet cat named Tobias.  Tobias is a tame cat recently rescued from a feeding station thin, dirty and lonely.

He is very happy to be rescued, but needs to have his teeth fixed before he can fully recover from his time on the street and find a forever family. His little smoker paws may look tobacco stained, but we think that they are actually stained from cleaning himself, as his saliva is discoloured by infected and rotted teeth!

Tobias also needs a foster home to recover in with some TLC after his surgery.

Please consider either making a donation (contact us at pfasask@gmail.com for info or donate via PayPal on our website at http://www.people4animals.ca/)

Also, we have several upcoming fundraisers to help benefit our rescued cats - please consider attending one of these fun and fabulous events!

Please contact us for information about these fundraisers - or Tobias - at pfasask@gmail.com

Feral Feeders Needed

People for Animals is once again seeking volunteers for our intrepid feral cat team. This role requires dedication and a strong desire to help homeless cats, but it is also very rewarding.

Volunteer feeders are assigned to cover a feeding route for a particular day of the week and  make stops at a number of designated feeding stations on the assigned route, providing food and water to the cats.

Orientations are provided.

For more information, please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com

Sweet But Shy Siamese Girl Needs A Home

This pretty little cat is Zoey, a 1.5 year old spayed female. She will be homeless in a few days, as her owner has lost his home and is going to a seniors home that doesn't allow pets.

We are seeking a foster or adoptive home for this sweet cat as soon as possible.

Zoey is good with other cats and small dogs, but is shy around new people. She would do well in a quiet home with few or no other pets and no small children.

If you can help us out with Zoey, please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com

An Unusual Kitten Toy

Our newly rescued kitten Gracie wasn't quite sure what to make of Sebastien, the resident black lab at her foster home.

Luckily, Sebastien is used to new foster kitties and he took it in stride when Gracie decided to attack his paw and use it as her personal kitty toy!

Gracie and her sister Gwen are doing great in foster care and are getting along nicely with Sebastien and the other cats in the foster home.

For info on Gracie, please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com

To Be a Cat!

Sometimes, especially on grey and dreary days like today, it's easy to envy the life of a cat!

Snuggly Stewie Needs a Home

This beautiful and buff guy is Stewie, a 2-year old male cat who was a long-term stray in North Central being fed and sheltered by a former PFA foster mom who adores him but isn't able to keep him.

Stewie is a very sweet and snuggly cat who likes to be held and cuddled. He also loves catnip and treats.

He has been waiting a long time to find the right person to appreciate and reciprocate his loving ways.

We are confident this gentle and affectionate boy will find that person soon!

The Heartbreak of Homelessness

PFA specializes in homeless cats, but in a growing city with a seriously shrinking vacancy rate, there are lots of homeless people too and some of them have beloved pets that are in jeopardy when the owners have no place to stay.

In the last few days, PFA has received word of two cat families that have homeless owners in need of help.

Keno (grey) and Brian (black/white) are beautiful and loving boys who are fixed and vaccinated, and have been loved house cats for their entire lives. When their owner was evicted on short notice and was faced with surrendering them to an uncertain fate, he contacted PFA and Brian and Keno joined the PFA ranks, and are now housed at PetCetera. Sadly, the owner himself had nowhere to go the night he turned over Brian and Keno, but at least he knew his cats would be safe!

In the second case, Sam (skinny calico) and Chloe (calico) belong to a senior citizen who was evicted from his rental and has been unable to find homes for his older cats. Chloe is a gorgeous 6 year old calico that is friendly and calm, and will do well as an adoptable cat.

Sweet Sam is 14 and has some vision problems but she adores cuddling and sitting in laps, and all she need to be happy is a quiet home with few,or preferably no other pets, and a nearby litter box and food bowl. We know she is a tough case, but we are hopeful that someone will recognize her huge potential to give and receive love, and give her a chance to live out her days as a cherished pet.

Sam is not a candidate for a satellite adoption centre, so we are hoping to find her a foster or adoptive home asap.

For information on Brian, Keno, Chloe or Sam, please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com.

We Can Haz Kittehs!

It was only a matter of time of before we got our first litter of kittens of the 2012 season, and they turned up on the doorstep of our Board President, Pat, just the other night having been plucked from peril - they were unwanted and about to be drowned on a rural property outside Regina.

Our three little terrific tabbies are Gwen (tabby), Gracie (tabby/white) and Gavin (grey/white). They are 8 weeks old, super-sweet and cuddly, and being socialized with people, a dog, and other cats so that they will make awesome pets!

These babies are safe and sound in a kitten foster home, and will be listed for adoption shortly.

Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com for more info on adopting one of these little guys!

Tobias Is a Sweet Surprise

This bedraggled looking fellow is Tobias, an adult male recently trapped at a PFA feral cat feeding station where he spent the winter.

Tobias was initially thought to be feral, but once trapped he turned out to be neutered and was wearing a worn-out collar. He also turned out to be a very tame, snuggly and sweet cat!

Tobias needs some time to recover from his time on the streets. Right now, his coat is dirty and matted, he is full of dandruff and he needs dental care.

For now, he is very happy to be safe and warm, and he shows his appreciation with snuggles and purrs. He will make a great pet for a lucky adopter once he's is ready to find his new home.

We are currently seeking a foster home for Tobias can relax and enjoy some TLC while he recovers. Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com for more info about this sweet guy!

Second Time Around for Satin

This gorgeous and unique looking cat is Satin, a 3 year old spayed female who was originally rescued in the fall of 2010 with her litter of 3 kittens.

Satin was an excellent mama to her kittens and saw them off to their new homes before finding a home of her own where she has been much loved.

Sadly, her family has contacted us to let us know they are no longer able to keep Satin due to allergies within the family.

Satin is a friendly and affectionate cat who loves being petted and brushed. She is quite chatty and vocal and will tell you all about her day while she sits in your lap. Satin is good with children but not other cats.

We are seeking a foster or adoptive home for Satin as soon as possible, preferably one with no other cats.

Please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com for more info on Satin!

A Change of Luck for Lucky!

This sweet tabby boy is Lucky, a lovely and gentle cat whose life has been anything but lucky.

Lucky was discovered living under the doorstep of a kind couple last December, finding whatever shelter and food he could in the cold. They started feeding him and once they realized is friendly nature, took him into their home.

The people found his tattoo number and traced the owner only to find out that they had moved away and left Lucky behind, and had no interest in getting him back.

Lucky's rescuers loved Lucky and they wanted to keep him but were about to embark on their own move out of the province and didn't feel they could take him so they contacted PFA for help.

Lucky is now vaccinated and has been giving a grooming treatment. He is a very loving and gentle cat who is hoping that the 3rd time is the charm when it comes to a furr-ever home. He enjoys petting and playing with catnip toys! Lucky will be listed for adoption shortly.

For information on Lucky, please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com.

Sweet Little Toffee in His New home

A few weeks ago, PFA received word of a young male kitten all alone outside in a North Central neighourhood with no access to food or shelter.

We quickly scooped the little guy, named Toffee for his colouring and his sweet personality, and placed him into foster care. He was scooped equally quickly by a loving new family who figured he would make a good pal for the kitten they recently adopted from the shelter.

His new family let us know that he is fitting in very well and that he is very much loved. His name his now Stanely, and he gets along great with his human family and his cat buddy Angus.

Not bad for a forlorn little guy found on the streets barely two weeks ago!

An Update on Spongebob

Here is our sweet guy, Spongebob, relaxing in his foster home after spending several weeks confined at a vet clinic while we sought an only-cat foster home for him.

Spongebob is an FIV positive cat who was rescued after feeding all winter at a feeding station. He was full of wounds from cat fights and paid the price with FIV.

However, FIV cats can live long and healthy lives just like a regular cat, and Spongebob has healed up and done amazingly well since his rescue. He is in better shape than several of our non-FIV rescues, and he is a sweet and loving boy who is enjoying life as a pampered house cat.

Spongebob is looking for a forever home that will take good care of him and help keep the FIV at bay through good nutrition, regular vet care and TLC. He loves to give head butts and nuzzles and is a lovely, gentle cat.

For more info on Spongebob, please contact us at pfasask@gmail.com

Lucy at Home

Last spring we rescued a lovely tortoiseshell mama cat named Lucy and her 4 kittens. Lucy had given birth to her litter out at the Sedley seed plant, and the staff there were concerned for their safety in the busy plant.

The little family was placed into foster care, where Lucy nurtured her beautiful kittens, who were all quickly adopted.

When it came time to find Lucy a home of her own, we didn't have to look far - she was already there! Her person explains:

When Lucy arrived with her four kittens, our eyes met through the pet carrier door. The bond was instant. After a long campaign to get her foster dad on side, Lucy was adopted into our home of three other cats. Lucy is just a lovely, sweet cat. She's chatty and will meow at you until you pick her up for cuddles. She is definitely a 'daddy's girl' and has her pet dad wrapped around her little paw. I can't thank People for Animals enough for the opportunity to be a foster parent to Lucy and her brood, and for bringing Lucy into our lives forever.

This is one very lucky little mama cat, and we couldn't be happier for her!

Sweet Sasha the Pup is Still Looking for a Home

Sasha is a beautiful, fun and energetic shepherd/husky cross puppy (7 months old) who is seeking a new forever home with an experience dog owner knowledgeable about the more energetic breeds!

Sasha was rescued hungry and cold from a rural area just after Christmas and was quickly adopted by an eager family, only to be returned when one of the children turned out to be severely allergic to her.

Sasha is spayed and microchipped. She is good with children (lets them dress her up) and other dogs, and is very social at doggy daycare. She is also getting used to being with several cats in her foster home and learning not to chase them.

Sasha walks great on a leash and needs at least one 45 minute walk per day. She would benefit from a dog-loving home that can offer lots of love, cuddles and time for walks!

Please contact us for more information on Sasha at pfasask@gmail.com.

Sending Thanks

PFA would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who helped out at our booth at CATS, the musical, as well as to everyone who stopped by to donate cat food, money, and to learn about our cause.

We would also like to thank the Conexus Arts Centre and Broadway Across Canada for allowing us the opportunity to set up a display and take donations while CATS was playing here in Regina.

We are very grateful for the support, and had lots of fun with this event!
