Clever Little Mama Cat Orchestrates Rescue

A kind, animal-loving family was spending time at their cottage at Madge Lake last week-end and received an unexpected surprise when a skinny, and very hungry, stray cat came to visit.   

They fed her and watched her go on her merry way, only to return the next morning, ravenous again. After petting her, they realized that the cat was a nursing mama, and sure enough, after feeding for her for a few days and gaining her trust, she turned on their doorstep with 5 baby kittens! 

They opened the door and in marched the little family and made themselves at home.  The mama and kittens are all very tame and are litter box trained already, leading us to believe that they may have been dumped there, or abandoned.  

So, when the family returned to Regina, they brought the little cat family with them.  They noticed that the mama cat, Honey, was a bit stressed and restless, but of course attributed it to the trip and new environment. 

But as it turns out, she was missing a baby!  The family heard from their relatives at the lake that a sixth kitten had been found.  Fortunately, someone has volunteered to bring the little guy to Regina so he can be reunited with his mama and siblings. 

Honey and her babies are doing great. They are about 6 weeks old, litter box trained and eating soft food so will be ready for adoption very soon. 

We are so glad there are caring people who were willing to help a little mama cat in need, and happy that Honey and her kittens will get a chance at loving forever homes.

Beating the Heat With a Buzz Cut

This newly shorn, handsome guy is our mellow, gentle boy Lucky.

Lucky is a long-haired tabby who wintered outside and despite several grooming treatments, he still had mats and required a shave to give him some relief.

We think the new look suits him, and hope that there is an adopter for him who agrees and will help Lucky live up to his name!

Volunteers Needed for Craven Big Valley Jamboree

People for Animals is looking for volunteers to work at the Craven Big Valley Jamboree July 11th to 15th.  We are selling liquor tickets and each volunteer will earn $11/hour for the organization.  

This is a great fundraising opportunity for PFA, summer is a very busy (and expensive) time for our spay/neuter program.    It is also a pretty easy and fun job.

Uncle Peanut

Peanut came to us as a scruffy and battered stray after spending over a year living on the street and being cared for by a feral team volunteer.

Once trapped for sterlization,  it was evident that Peanut was just shy, not feral, and we placed him in foster care so that he can find the loving home he deserves.

Peanut may be a bit shy around people, but he is a friend to all the cats in his foster home. When his foster mom answered an urgent call to take in a mama and kittens in distress, Peanut quickly established himself as the little family's bodyguard, making sure that the mama wasn't disturbed while nursing and that the other cats didn't bother the kittens as they began exploring.

He watches visitors carefully to ensure they are friendly and handle his little friends with care, and he has been a dedicate surrogate papa to the little family.

The kittens love to play with their Uncle Peanut, and their mama Pandora seems smitten as well!  Peanut is a very popular guy.

Peanut is a wonderful character cat who definitely needs a home with other cats, preferably younger cats or kittens, where he can fulfill his role as protector and bodyguard!

Fleet Street Charlie

This cute little tabby cat is Charlie, a young stray who has been hanging around on a busy city street for a while now.

He was nabbed in an attempt to trap and sterilize a feral cat, but was let go the first time as we assumed such a sweet and friendly guy belonged to someone.

When he showed up in the trap a second time, we decided not to put him back on the busy street where traffic is a huge hazard. We found him a temporary spot while we posted found ads seeking an owner, but no-one claimed this sweet boy.

Charlie has now been neutered and is available for adoption. He is an easygoing and affectionate cat who has adapted well to his new foster home. He is happy to be rescued, and is very well behaved. And also very cute!

Yes, Virginia! There is a Forever Home!

This pretty and precious grey and white girl is Virginia. a tame and sweet 7-month old female rescued form a feeding station where she's gone unclaimed for  over a month.

Virginia is on the wait list for a foster home, and as with many rescues, the fewer other cats she has to deal with the better.

She is adorable, friendly and sweet but understandably rattled by being rescued and stuck in a vet clinic!
